Communities work when members feel compelled to contribute to the community in order to gain value from it. —
- The Community Manager
As our friend David Spinks points out, people join a community because they have some type of agenda. More often than not, this agenda is tied to relationships. There is something about the other members within that community that makes potential members want to be a par of it; want to be actively involved. That’s the beauty of building a community — you’re connecting people around your brand for mutually beneficial relationships. That’s also why charging members to join is in general a bad idea.
